ACRYLIC PAINTINGS ON PLYWOOD

After gaining an art degree from Dartington College of Art (1992-1995) I pursued a 25 year long career in broadcast and commercial motion graphic design, working predominantly on title sequences and short form work. Although my personal artistic practice continued in the background through that time, after total professional burn out I returned to painting to aid a long recovery. My creative output is now very different.

Working from memory with a wide range of tools, from small brushes to large plasterers trowels, my work is abstract and expressionistic but is often rooted within a sense of place. I am endlessly fascinated by the ethereal edge between land, sea and sky.

I paint using heavy body acrylics onto 18mm birch plywood or 6mm MDF bonded to 18mm plywood backing. Surfaces are prepared with GAC100 acrylic polymer and the final pieces are finished with archival quality satin or matt varnish. Some larger pieces can be substantial in weight and I often use a “French Cleat” hanging system.

I also offer an installation service and can advise on framing, hanging and positioning.
